It’s All Good

November 20, 2014

It’s all good. Aside from this being the title of a Bob Dylan song, do we really believe that it’s all good? Of course we don’t. Life is tragic beyond words. Death is prevalent. Our most vital relationships are often fractured. We personally engage in destructive behaviors. I could go on.

But then, there is the wonderful promise of Romans 8:28: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” In this verse we find the light that enables us to navigate the storms of life. Much of life isn’t good, however, God has promised to work the awfulness of life into good.

Our challenge isn’t to figure out what God is up to. Usually we can’t. Our task is to believe. We are to believe when we want to cry out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” We are to believe that as he transformed the cross into something wonderful, so he is working good in our lives, even when it all seems bad.
