Sin Boldly

December 7, 2012

I know I’ve posted this Luther quote before, however, the reminder is always helpful.

from The Strange Triumph of the Lamb by Nick Nowalk

“If you are a preacher of grace, then preach a true, not a fictitious grace; if grace is true, you must bear a true and not a fictitious sin. God does not save people who are only fictitious sinners. Be a sinner and sin boldlybut believe and rejoice in Christ even more boldly—for he is victorious over sin, death, and the world. As long as we are here we have to sin. This life in not the dwelling place of righteousness but, as Peter says, we look for a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” (Martin Luther, letter to Philipp Melancthon on August 1st, 1521)

This is exactly what was on my mind and heart today. “This life in not the dwelling place of righteousness but, as Peter says, we look for a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

This helps me with my own sin and it helps me with those who sin against me. It is almost soothing for me to read this.
